Only 7 in 10 young people say that they have any books of their own?
Young people who have books of their own
enjoy reading more than young people who don't own books
are twice as likely to read every day
read for longer periods of time
The goal for our "Read for Eagles" program is to make sure all of the students in our community have books of their own.
The Jacob Wismer PTO has pledged $100 for every 500 hours that JW students read between Feb. 1 through Mar. 19, 2021 to provide books to kids in our Jacob Wismer community who need them.
All Jacob Wismer students are invited to participate, however, the program is optional. Student use a tally sheet (see next panel for the link) to record the hours that they read (or are read to if they are younger). Tally sheets are submitted by email to our secretary, Kelly Cruickshank at email@example.com. Our 5th grade leadership students will tally the hours.
Students who participate will be recognized in our Jacob Wismer Journal (parent newsletter) and/or at a future assembly.
If your child has few or no books of their own at home, please fill out this confidential form so we know what books your child would like. If you know of other neighborhood children who could benefit from "Read for Eagles," please encourage their parents to complete this form, too. Our goal is to have all children in our community have books to start their own home libraries.
